June 2025 Volume 5, Issue 06
Dear Quilting Friends,
Even though we haven’t quite reached the meteorological solstice, I’d say summer has finally arrived! At least here locally the kids are out of school, the public pool is open for business and I’m back to wearing shorts and flip flops (well, at least at home).
May was a busy month gearing up for next week’s Panguitch Quilt Walk Festival. Kami has done a terrific job of cutting and folding and packaging our newest Mini-pack products that we’ll be unveiling at the show. Today I’m off to the print shop to get copies of our coordinating patterns (that Kami also designed), Lowe’s for scissor clamps, duct tape and zip ties and then, Costco to get a couple more storage totes. Finally, I’ll end the day with a much needed, very relaxing massage from my amazing MT (short for massage therapist), Heather. I can already feel the “ahhhhs” coming on.
Back in the shop tomorrow we’ll start to check our list 2 and maybe 3 more times to make sure we have everything we need for the show. Mini Packs, check. Mini Patterns, check. Fabric bundles, check. Table covers, grid wall, grid wall connectors, check, check and double check. Pens, clipboards, business cards……and the list goes on.
Then, next Tuesday, June 10th, Tim and I will head 2-1/2 hours south to set up our booth and get ready to make lots of great connections with everyone who stops by. Soooooo, we do hope you’ll come say “hi” if you’re planning to be there sometime between June 11-14.
As always, we have lots of new fabrics coming into the shop. One of my favorite collections is called Crow-mazing by Jan Mott for Henry Glass. And while it sounds a little like a Halloween print, it isn’t at all. The colors are gorgeous, and it is printed as a continuous design with a 24” repeat. Someone suggested it would make a beautiful skirt, and I tend to agree with her.
Now for some serious discussion. I’m sure there is lots of speculation about pending tariff actions and how it will impact the fabric industry. So far, all our regular vendors have done their best to hold costs down and absorb the increase, but they can do that for only so long. It is our intention to also do our best to maintain current retail pricing by taking advantage of vendor sales, bundling orders to reduce or eliminate shipping costs, etc. Even with all the fabric we have in the shop, I sometimes purchase fabric elsewhere to get just the right color I’m looking for and it hurts my head to see prices hovering around $17 to $20 per yard.
As a small business owner, I get it. Retail pricing must be set to cover expenses and grow the business. But, as a consumer, I want the most value for my money. I get that, too. That’s why we’re committed to giving you the best experience possible.
From the day we opened our door in 2020 our goal has always been to help you find just what you need. So, whether you’re there to look and/or buy, we hope you leave with a smile on your face and a little spark of joy in your heart.
