Dear Quilting Friends,
Alas, I apologize again for the delay in sending out this month’s newsletter. The excuse this time isn’t because I was clueless about what to say but rather spending the last few weeks recovering from whatever ailment is making its way around Utah. Some nights I had just enough energy to lay on the couch, turn on the TV and binge watch episodes of Dateline or 20/20. However, the most frustrating part was having to then spend time rewinding back to the sections that I slept through. At least I’m now all caught up and feeling more like my old-er self.
My granddaughter Elizabeth and I had a great time at the Delta Snow Goose Quilt Show last month. It’s always fun to see what projects are going on at the retreat and to take some time wandering through the quilt show. I know I’ve said it before but there are some very talented quilters in this area. I think my favorite quilt was made from a Tilda pattern which showcased farm girls and chickens. It was super cute and really tugged at my heartstrings. Although I was raised in the city with all the conveniences one could imagine, I’ve always had a desire to own a piece of dirt and raise chickens, cows, corn, carrots, beans, peas, etc, etc, etc. For me, I feel a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when I can look at my home canned meat, peaches or tomatoes and say, “I did that.” Shoot, just the price of eggs right now makes me want to pack up and live off the land! As any good quilter would say, “(sigh) someday.”
Next week I get to spend another awesome few days with the Quilt Queens (Claudia L. and Sharon H.) out in Ephraim. They sure know how to put the fun into a quilting retreat. I’m looking forward to rubbing elbows with all the other ladies as well, and eating some super delicious food made by Beth K (I assume, LOL). Good thing I lost a few pounds the past couple months and haven’t replaced all my “too big for my britches” jeans. I just know I’m going to need them again after next Monday – Wednesday’s sew-fest.
Speaking of “I did that,” I’m almost done putting the last of my blocks together for the Mystic Vineyard BOM that we began last June, just in time to start our Floralscape BOM this coming June. Where Mystic Vineyard was made from a tropical mix of black, purple, lavender and green batiks, Floralscape is designed to invoke a more country or Southwest vibe using browns, tans, beige, coral and turquoise prints. And, if you’ve been thinking about joining us on this journey, please take the time to register soon as we have just a handful of spaces still available. Anyway, I think this one is going to be amazing.
And, not to toot our horn too early, we’ve been invited to sell our wares at the Panguitch Quilt Walk also in June. We’re pretty darn excited at this opportunity! And, if you’re there we hope you’ll take the time to stop by and say hi. We always like bumping into our friends when we’re out and about.
For me, there’s always a lot to do and a lot to look forward to. Just this morning (as I took our dogs out) I noticed little buds on our apple tree. I’m sure part of that was due to the 60-degree temps last Sunday. But it also signals that Spring is just around the corner, and with it a sense of annual renewal. Boy, am I ready!
With that, I hope life slows down just a little bit so we can all take time to notice and appreciate not only the beauty around us, but also within each of us. Till next time………
