Dis-Patch Newsletter February 2025
February 2025 Volume 5, Issue 02
Dear Quilting Friends,
I apologize for sending this newsletter a little later than normal (whatever that is). But I’ve struggled a bit with finding a theme for this month’s musings. Of course, I could go with everything that has anything to do with love. After all, this is the month to celebrate our Valentines (or hope that our Valentines celebrate us). However, I’ve decided the topic of “love through service” is just what I was looking for .
The poetess Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” The answer for me isn’t in the cards, candy or flowers I might give or get on Valentine’s Day. But rather, love is shown by everyday activities such as:
- Doing the laundry
- Fixing a meal
- Kissing a boo-boo
- Righting a wrong
- Saying “I’m sorry”
- Saying “I love you” just because
- Listening
- Being empathetic
- Running errands
- Maintaining a clean house
- Tucking my babies into bed
- And, not the very least of these is making a quilt to give away.
This past week Katy sent me a picture of Owen snuggling in his new bandana blanket that he got for Christmas. He wasn’t feeling well until Katy wrapped him up in the blanket that had just been pulled from the dryer. Now it’s used for “warm blanket time” at their house. It makes this grandma feel good knowing that a gift is loved that much!
I was also the recipient of much love. If you’ve been in the shop lately you may have noticed that the walls have been pretty bare since last August. Back then Tim helped take down most of the display quilts for a couple of trunk shows. After those were over, I didn’t dare ask him to put them back up because there was so much to do in our basement. But thanks to Kami’s husband Mike, and their son Eli, (who love me so much!) the walls are full of color with both old and new quilts to enjoy. So, come by the shop soon. There is a lot to look at once again!
Lastly, I am amazed at people’s willingness to support others in need. A young mother in my neighborhood recently had some medical complications that drastically impacted her ability to function normally. While extended family has stepped in to focus on the kids so that her husband/their father can focus on her, our community has rallied to make sure no one goes hungry and other family needs are met. Without question I have been inspired by their outpouring of love and care.
I’m also sure that you have had similar feelings while helping others through difficult times. To me it’s all about being part of the Savior’s love in action. Thank you for all you do to bring a little light into my life and your corner of the world.
As always, we hope you’re healthy, happy, and finding joy in each 1/4” seam.
Happy Quilting!
~ Beth and Kami
