Hello Quilt Friends,
I don’t know about you, but my September was b-u-s-y! As you may remember we celebrated our 4th anniversary and had so many customers come in (thank you all!). At one point in time, I think we had 8 customers in the store which makes it pretty tight quarters in just 600-700 square feet. That’s about the size of one of those tiny houses I see on TV. Hah!
Just a week later, I spent 3-1/2 days at the Garden of Quilts event and show. It was super fun to listen to Melissa Gilbert talk about her experiences while portraying Laura Ingalls Wilder in the Little House on the Prairie series and see Jenny Doan and her daughters. A couple of days were spent in the shop owners track sponsored by Riley Blake Designs. We listened to various designers (like Lori Holt and Jill Finley) and industry experts talk about fabric collections, patterns, social media, merchandising, customer services and a host of other topics. I was able to hob-nob with other shop owners from here to Georgia and learn what helps them be successful. Hopefully, we’ll be able to implement some of the things we learned along the way. And, oh yeah, the quilt displays were spectacular!
Shortly after that I realized that my challenge quilt for the Payson Quilt Show was due a week sooner than I thought. So, I kicked it into high gear and fortunately got it done and delivered on time for last week’s show. And, ta da! I got another blue ribbon!!! (visualize a heart emoji here) Aside from that I had the privilege of sharing the stage with Suzanne Jackman at the Payson trunk show and then teaching some great ladies how to make our Twist and Turn Tree Skirt. Needless to say, it was great fun.
And, if that wasn’t enough for a Saturday afternoon, I came home and helped my husband sprinkle our basement floor with the color flakes for the epoxy finish we’re laying down. We’re now 1 h-u-g-e step closer to getting the basement done and unpacking the 42+ U-Haul boxes of fabric that have been sitting in our guest bedroom and hallway alcove for over 2 years. In all reality I’m not complaining. Tim works hard to get these tasks completed and I’m grateful he has the skills to do them.
Finally, today is Monday, and I have a chance to sit and reflect for a few minutes not only about what happened this month, but how all those things made me feel. Sometimes I get so wrapped in what’s going on that I forget to notice the emotion that goes along with it. Most of the time these experiences lift me up and give me greater purpose in life. And isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be?
I know God wants each of us to be happy. I know He gives us opportunities to feel His love. I hope you feel the same.
