Hello Friends,
Dear Quilting Friends,
October was a whirlwind month with lots of time with family. One of Tim’s nieces was in town for a couple of days
followed by a visit from my sister for a whole week. Thank goodness for wireless computing. It still astounds me that we
have all this technology at our fingertips and people can work from “home” wherever that happens to be at any given
moment. All in all, it was fun to have them here for a bit.
Kami and I have to give props to some local ladies who hosted a mini mystery quilt retreat this past weekend. Kathilynn
did a great job designing and organizing the “mystery” part of our get together and Sarah made sure we all won a prize
and had a good time. The other ladies there were just as fun to be around! Needless to say, we can hardly wait for next
year’s event.
Then, there was the Halloween festivities along Main Street here in Nephi. What a hoot! I’m always amazed at the
number of kids (and their parents) who dress up for the day’s Trick or Treat event sponsored by the local businesses. I
think we handed out over 600 pieces of candy in two hours not counting what may have been a couple of repeat
customers and the Almond Joy and Milky Way bars I set aside for myself. I’m not one to readily don a Halloween
costume, but it’s always been hard to resist anything with chocolate and caramel.
As I look forward to the days leading up to Thanksgiving, I think my focus has changed a bit. Of course, I’m grateful for a
good life, wonderful family and friends, a warm house, and more fabric than I know what to do with in a 24-hour day.
But, on a serious note, I’ve decided that I need to be more invested in other people’s welfare and not wrapped up so
much in my own little world.
Over the years I’ve heard many prayers asking the Lord to bless those in need. Shoot, I’ve even said those words myself
almost like I was asking God to physically put food in their cupboards or expecting someone else to take care of them.
However, the concept of being His hands recently became very personal to me.
Over the past couple of months, I kept thinking about someone I go to church with. We haven’t had much interaction in
the five years I’ve lived here, but nonetheless her name kept coming to my mind. Weeks went by and while I was walking
by a flower stand at the grocery store, the thought came to get her some sunflowers. When I finally got to her house and
she opened the door I said, “I know this is really random, but I’ve been thinking about you and thought you needed a
hug.” She happily accepted the flowers and hug, and I went on my way feeling I did what I was prompted to do.
What surprised me most though was the nice text I received two days later. In it she thanked me for the flowers and the
thoughts then said, “you will never know how much that was needed and so appreciated………. God really does hear our
prayers.”
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends and maybe have the opportunity to be the
answer to someone else’s prayer this holiday season.
As always, we hope you’re healthy, happy, and finding joy in each 1/4” seam.
Happy Quilting!
~ Beth and Kami
