The Paisley Dis-Patch Newsletter August 2023
August 2023 Volume 4, Issue 8
Dear Quilting Friends,
I know it’s not yet August, but I figure it’s better you receive this particular newsletter sooner than later.
While our disposition is somewhat sunny on the outside, our hearts are hurting on the inside. In just two short weeks we will be temporarily suspending operations at 21 South Main St in Nephi, Utah. As much as we tried, we haven’t yet been able to find a new home for our shop. Consequently, we will be closing our doors on August 5 to begin packing our remaining inventory and leave the place cleaner than we found it.
Many people have asked why we’re leaving. The simple answer is that God is a huge part of my life. Well, ok, He’s bigger than huge. I wouldn’t be the person I am without having Jesus Christ right next to me and I’m trying my best to walk the path that He puts in front of me. As I was recently pondering our next steps, I realized I’ve been in this kind of situation before where I’ve laid aside something important to me to prepare to do something more important for Him. These experiences don’t always make sense to me. But He knows what is going on and more importantly why we’re doing this. So, once again I’m choosing to trust in His wisdom knowing the answers will eventually come. Fortunately, He hasn’t let me down yet.
Now, the term “temporary” can have various meanings. To some it could mean a few days or weeks. To us it means we don’t know how long it will be before we open our next store front. In the meantime, our online store will still be open (www.paisleypatchquilts.com). Sigh, I know it’s not the same as feeling the fabric. I definitely like that too. But please be aware that we will continue to bring in new product lines and collections that meet the high-quality standards you’ve come to know at Paisley Patch Quilts.
We will continue to publish our monthly newsletters to stay connected and bring you the latest news on our progress.
And, as soon as my basement is finished, we’ll fire up the longarm to begin quilting for you again. Right now, it’s a mess and is due to get even messier. Ugh, I really don’t like construction or remodeling. But it’ll be worth the effort in the end. Once that’s back in production, we’ll set up a convenient location for you to drop off and pick up your quilts. In addition to that, we’re working on a process to receive and ship quilts from outside our local area. Please stay tuned for more info on that.
Rest assured we’re not going to just sit around with nothing to do. We’re trying to embrace this opportunity to really dive into other aspects of quilting that we just haven’t had time for. For example, many of you have asked about patterns for various quilts that hang in the shop. We’ll be developing and publishing those quilt patterns (as well as instructions for new designs that have been swirling in my head) to help grow your quilting library. We will also be hosting some quilt-alongs and are entertaining the idea of future block-of-the-month programs.
We also have plans to record and post how-to’s on YouTube and other platforms. Kami has been honing her social media skills and we’ll be collaborating with each other to bring you topics like, “How to Use a Rotary Cutter”, “Why 1/4" Seams Are Important”, and “How to Prepare a Quilt Top for Machine Quilting”. With a list of over 40 ideas to cover, I think there will be something everyone will find useful no matter how long they’ve been quilting.
Lastly, I’m going to really miss the daily interaction with all our customers. It’s been a delight and privilege to get to know you, to learn about your families, your projects, your life experiences. I look forward to the day when we can once again open our doors and share a little quilting joy.
As always, we hope you’re healthy, happy, and finding joy in each 1/4” seam.
Happy Quilting!
~ Beth and Kami
