Dear Quilting Friends,
Happy February! Tis the season for celebrating love. And while I love my husband, children, and the grandkids I’m not into the commercial aspect of Valentine’s Day. I’d rather do something to show I care than send cards and candy. Aside from that I love to quilt and watch sappy movies that bring me to tears even though the plot lines are all the same. It’s been the family joke long enough that even my grandchildren now hand me tissues at just the right moment.
I want to give a big shout out to Jeffrey Yasenchok for coming to the shop last week and teaching an advanced class on longarm quilting using the Quilt Path program. He’s been a master quilter for many years and loves to share his knowledge with those who want to improve their skills. We learned so much under his direction. I now feel more confident and capable to further enhance your quilts with just the right amount of custom quilting to make your work shine through. You really can teach a mature (not old) dog new tricks!!!
The first series of Amish Quilt classes begin this month. I’m so excited to start teaching these sessions! While I don’t quilt by candlelight, I’ve admired Amish quilting traditions for a long time. Theirs is truly a labor of love and purpose. I’m excited to see how each quilter’s fabric palette plays out in the overall theme of the quilt. I’m sure each one will look unique even though we’re all using the same instructions. We’re definitely going to have a good time comparing and contrasting the end results. Don’t worry though. If you didn’t have a chance to sign up for this class, it will be offered again in the near future.
Finally, a customer recently asked me what I love about having my own business. I immediately said, “The people!” And it’s true!!! I love interacting with everyone who comes in, calls, or emails with questions and comments. It’s been such a great joy to me that we’re temporarily expanding our reach to sell some of our merchandise at the Snow Goose Quilt Show in Delta, UT on February 23-25. I do hope you’ll come by to see the many wonderful quilts on display and say, “Hi” while you’re there. Go to http://deltasnowgoosequiltshow.blogspot.com/ for a list of events and classes.
Hopefully, you picked up on our theme of love this month. Whether you celebrate through romantic gestures, by giving some sort of service, or any of a dozen other ways I hope your heart is full this Valentine's Day. I know mine is.
As always, we hope you’re healthy, happy and finding joy in each 1/4” seam.
Happy Quilting!
