July 2022 Volume 3, Issue 7
Dear Quilting Friends,
I spent a lot of time this past month catching up on a few things. After getting some one-on-one training, I’m back in full swing at the longarm. While there are still a couple of techniques I need to perfect, the learning curve is beginning to flatten out. I’ve always been a kinetic learner preferring a hands-on education as opposed to reading a tutorial. However, not wanting to run to my mentor (Jeffery Yasenchok) every time I forgot a step, I decided to write step-by-step instructions to help me remember the whole process. And boy is it a doozy! Regardless of the quilt’s size, it now takes over 100 steps to set up an edge-to-edge design. No wonder I was a little reluctant to download the new program on my longarm tablet. But it is certainly worth the effort. The work I can now do is so much better than before.
And…..drum roll, please. My first fabric bowl is done!!! While it isn’t perfect, completing it did give me a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Hopefully, you agree that it doesn’t look half bad. Of course, I’m not going to be able to use it for my morning cereal. But it will come in handy holding some colorful yarn or other interesting collectibles. It just doesn’t end here. Once I’m finished compiling the instructions, we’ll set up classes to share the fun. So, keep an eye out for upcoming dates and times.
I’m also excited to let you know that we now carry Art Gallery Fabrics (AGF). While it’s hard to truly assess fabric quality and color from a catalog, this line of fabric certainly exceeded my expectations. The saturated color is stunning and the feel, or “hand” of the fabric is silky smooth. The other great bonus AGF maintains is that the fabric has a less than 1% shrinkage rate. I do hope you’ll come by soon to check out our new inventory.
Last, but certainly not least I want to say, “Happy Birthday, America!” What a great honor and opportunity to celebrate our nation’s 246th birthday on July 4th. Whether you’re watching a parade, supporting a local carnival, grilling burgers or “dogs”, or “ooo-ing” and “ahhh-ing” at the night’s fireworks display please take a moment to give thanks to all who have valiantly served and fought to maintain this great county we call home. There’s no other place on earth I’d rather be.
As always, we hope you’re healthy, happy and finding joy in each 1/4” seam.
