Hello Friends,

It’s a great day to be alive and take in all the splendor this world has to offer! From colorful majestic mountains to the texture of an individual blade of grass I find there is an endless supply of quilting inspiration that surrounds us no matter where we live.

My professional life includes several years spent drafting architectural plans and developing manufacturing drawings for airplane parts and assemblies. Those two fields might seem vastly different, but they both gave me an appreciation for lines, angles, symmetry, and design.

While we lived in Virginia my husband and I took the opportunity to visit Thomas Jefferson’s Charlottesville home, Monticello. I was fascinated by architectural details such as thick walls which flanked each side of the windows to conceal interior shutters and the extensive brick pathways throughout the grounds.

One feature I was especially drawn to was the parquet flooring in the parlor. Instead of cutting simple square tiles and laying the grain in opposite directions, each tile had a center square made of cherry wood and framed by mitered pieces of birch. Can you see the emerging quilt pattern? Not only do the lines remind me of the foundation for various blocks, but the light and dark shades create visual depth that otherwise wouldn’t exist without these details. Alas! So much inspiration, so little time.

Speaking of time, we are quickly coming up on our 1^st anniversary on September 8^th! Paisley Patch Quilts has truly been a labor of love and I am so excited to be celebrating this event with all of you.
